I’m Chance Hoener, a Magazine Journalism major at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I am currently a junior, and have a love for writing about music and long-form narrative journalism. I hope to get a career working as a writer at a lifestyle magazine like Texas Monthly or 5280.
This past Summer I worked at The Fort Scott Tribune and had the opportunity to write a multitude of stories, including three stories that appeared on A1. I have also written for Drake Magazine, Drake University’s student-produced, bi-annual magazine for the past two semesters. I wrote for the music sections of the print magazine and also for online. Away from school and internships, I have kept up with my love for music writing by working as a contributing writer for Band Bombshell since August of 2013.
When I’m not writing or doing school work, I enjoy playing guitar, slacklining and spending time outdoors. I also love sinking into a great horror novel, or a piece of creative non-fiction and getting lost for a couple hours. I was raised in Southeast Kansas in the rural town of Hepler, and grew up with a rancher for a father and a school teacher for a mother. I’m a beer fanatic and you can read about my adventures on my Iowa beer blog.
